Leonard graduated from University of Madras in 1997 with a B.Sc. in Physiotherapy and went on to do multiple postgraduate courses in Advanced Myofascial Release techniques, Matrix Repatterning, Energy Medicine techniques along with practicing Qigong & Yoga breathing techniques to improve your overall health.

Leonard is also well known in NL and across Canada, as the Coach & Dad of Katarina Roxon, the 2016 Rio Paralympics Gold Medalist. He has the distinction of being the only NL Coach to be the recipient of multiple Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Awards, bestowed only on Canada’s most outstanding national team coaches.

Leonard has had a distinguished career as a physiotherapist. An excellent manual therapist, he believes in using innovative techniques and best practice methods to attain optimum treatment outcomes. He is adept at assessing and treating injuries such as MVA’s, Sports Injuries, Industrial, Workplace injuries, and Constipation issues

His background as an athlete and coach has fostered a real understanding of the rigours of training, competing and injury rehabilitation. He designs and teaches individualized exercise plans along preventive care regimens. He is adept at assessing and treating neck, back, shoulder, lower body, and trunk related injuries.

Leonard has himself played basketball at the national level and competed in athletics. His own experiences with injuries have given him unique perspectives to not only be an understanding Physiotherapist who treats injuries, but can empathize with patients on their day-to-day struggles faced by them while injured, along with valuable insights into treating various injuries, teaching preventive methods and empowering patients to become independent in managing their health.

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy and is a registered physiotherapist (RPT) with the Newfoundland and Labrador Physiotherapy Association (NLPA). Her commitment to continuous professional development is reflected in her certifications in advanced techniques and Matrix Repatterning ensuring that she is equipped with the latest techniques and treatments to help her patients recover effectively and efficiently.

Massage Therapy

Peggy G. Earle studied Massage Therapy at ICT Northumberland College in Halifax, NS. She returned to NL and started her practice with Gulf Massage & Physiotherapy Ltd., in September 2003. In April of 2024 the College of Massage Therapists of NL recognized her with the presentation of her 20-year certificate.

She has devoted much time and effort in continuing education to build a strong, diverse set of current cutting-edge treatment techniques. These include a Certification in Advanced Myofascial Release, Certification in Structural Integration, Matrix Patterning, Hot Stone Massage, Integrative Manual Therapy for Autonomic Nerve Conditions, Lower and Upper Extremity Disorders and Nerve Mobilization.

Peg is much sought after for her keen diagnostic skills and enjoys a great working relationship with physicians across the province. She strongly believes in balancing patient autonomy with the therapist’s duty to advocate on behalf of each patient. She is firm in the position that at Gulf Massage & Physiotherapy, the practitioners adhere to the philosophy that healthcare is not a business but a profession requiring strong skills and a genuine interest in each patient’s healthcare journey.

Peg is a hometown girl from Stephenville. Passionate about treating athletes, she has enjoyed a long affiliation with the province’s swimming community and served several consecutive terms as Secretary for Swimming Newfoundland and Labrador. Peg has also been President of the Island Wahoo’s Swim Club since 2007.

Peg has a quick wit with a dedication to a standard of excellence that makes her a strong asset to the team at Gulf Massage & Physiotherapy Ltd.

Katarina Roxon, PLY, O.N.L

Katarina Roxon from Kippens, Newfoundland, is a distinguished Canadian Paralympic swimmer and advocate for disability inclusion. She graduated from the College of the North Atlantic in 2023 with Honours in the Medical Office Management program. She has since been working at Gulf Massage & Physiotherapy Ltd. Stephenville, and at Gulf Physiotherapy & Wellness St. John’s, as the Office Manager for both clinics.

She began her Paralympic journey as a member of the Canadian National Team at age 12, competing in 5 Paralympic Games, from 2008 – 2024, representing Canada in numerous World Championships and international competitions. Roxon’s crowning achievement came at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, where she won gold in the 100-meter breaststroke SB8. She further added to her accolades with multiple medals in Paralympic Games, World Championships, Para PanAm Games other international competitions.

Over the years, Roxon has broken multiple World and Canadian records in swimming and track. Known for her perseverance, dedication, and strong work ethic, she has become a role model within and beyond the swimming community. Her dedication extends beyond the pool - Roxon advocates for healthier, active lifestyles and supports various community initiatives like SwimForHope and #HealthyMeBetterMe.

Recognized for her contributions to the enhancement of sport, culture, healthy lifestyles, and the Canada society at large, she was awarded the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. Her home province honoured her with the naming of the highway to Stephenville, Route 490, to Katarina Roxon Way. She is also the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the King Charles the III Coronation Medal. Memorial University has honoured her with a degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa. A remarkable athlete and inspirational figure, Roxon’s legacy is defined by her commitment to excellence, advocacy, and empowering others.
